### Chapter 3 — A Perfectly Reasonable Idea

The plan was straightforward.

The Mac mini would live in the garage. Its Wi-Fi would connect to the Vantrue camera, while a separate network connection would keep it accessible from the house.

The videos would be stored on the Mini and shared with my MacBook Air, iPad, and iPhone.

Eventually, the process might even become automatic.

A fourteen-year-old computer doing a useful job instead of taking up shelf space.

What could possibly go wrong?

Well, first we needed an operating system.

The Mini was old enough that modern macOS versions weren't an option. We settled on macOS Catalina, released in 2019.

For perspective, Catalina came out before ChatGPT existed.

So there we were: a 2012 computer, a 2019 operating system, and an AI assistant introduced to the world in 2022.

The computer was the oldest member of the team.

As events unfolded, it wasn't always clear which member had the most experience.
